Cold Sore Remedy-Are you ready for easy, natural, FREE, help with cold sores?

Cold sores-painful, ugly, contagious! I started getting them back in 1991 while staying at my mother-in-law’s and spending a lot of time in the sun. Since then, many breakouts have been triggered by sun exposure, so I use a lot of a certain kind of Chapstick  (with SPF 30) all the time when outside, that helps keep the herpes at bay. Some breakouts are triggered by stress however, so they are very difficult to predict.

Over the years I’ve tried many remedies, including over-the counter topical Lysine and oral supplements (that required refrigeration-what a pain), tea tree oil, and various other over-the-counter topical treatments, with varying degrees of success. Many of the treatments say they soften and lessen the pain; well I say never mind the pain-I want them gone! Softening is not what you need; the trick is to dry them up as fast as possible. Softening just prolongs the agony by facilitating yet another round of scabbing over.

WebMD page for remedies They like the anitviral pill treatments of course.

Full strength tea tree oil worked the best for me but it also ripped up my lips. I used lysine cream in conjunction just to keep the dryness to a manageable level. I have never tried any kind of pills for relief; somehow I’ve always had a healthy mistrust of bombarding my entire system with something when the topical version will do. (I’ll never forget going to a dermatologist in my thirties for adult onset acne. He wanted to put me on antibiotics-forever! Not quite-I left and never went back.)

My latest remedy, which I’ve used for years now, something called Cold Sore Remedy, by a German company called Lomapharm Emmenthal. The active ingredient is allantoin, but it also contains lemon balm. Both of these ingredients show up on a list of natural remedies, however for some reason Cold Sore Remedy (not the Enzymatic Therapy version) is available only by prescription. Maybe I have the wrong doctor, but he always makes me come in to get a refill-how ridiculous is that?

Good news though-I’ve found a remedy that is safe, natural and FREE! It is not for the squeamish, so if you don’t get these unsightly sores (or even if you do) be warned, what I am about to say may gross you out. As far as I am concerned however, a cold sore is one of the grossest things going, so I am up for just about any natural topical remedy. What is this magical treatment? Ear wax! Yes that’s what I said!

When my most recent sore erupted on my lower lip about a week ago, I was a little frantic because I was down to one tube of medicine. I started using it as usual and as usual started to feel some relief, however as normal I knew it would be several cycles before the thing was gone entirely. Not relishing a trip to the doctor just for my fix, and in the spirit of looking at natural ways of doing just about everything, I started researching online. This is not the page I found, but it will do, and as you can see, ear wax is at the top of the list!

So what happened when I tried the ear wax? Literally within two days the sore, all scabs, in fact all signs of anything amiss, were gone! Yes it tastes a little nasty if you accidentally get some in your mouth, but this is a pretty disgusting business over all-my goal is always GET RID OF THAT THING NOW, and the wax did the trick. Safe, natural, and FREE! (I’m sure it will also keep that tingling feeling from exploding into a full blown sore as well.)

Do you get cold sores? I hope you try this amazing remedy-I’ll love to hear what you think!

Thanks for reading and have a safe, healthy, and happy new year in 2014!

Thank you! I just looked at your blog-very interesting. I wish you the best of luck. I found my outbreaks come on from sun exposure, stress, or a combination. I use high SPF Chapstick on my lips all the time. Recently i started using Lemon balm as a preventative and it is very nice. Also helps shorten time of sores when they do happen. Check the post “Lancôme and lemon balm” for details. Thanks again!
